Local Law 11 is New York City’s regular facade inspection program. New York has mandated the inspection of your buildings exterior walls and appurtenances every 5 years since 1980. Buildings six stories or higher must have all of their exterior walls examined by qualified professionals with reports filed with the DOB.
The purpose of this ordinance is to keep pedestrians safe from potentially hazardous falling debris. Post WW2 buildings were often constructed with cavity wall brick faced facades. Many of these buildings exterior features are beginning to deteriorate from weather damage. Even modern buildings whose exterior walls are constructed of varied materials are showing facade failures due to construction standards not being met.
